I do have a photographic memory. It’s just that immediately after the photo is taken it goes into a shoebox with billions of other photos.
I loved Wire ever since I picked up “Pink Flag” a little over 32 years ago. But until now I never knew that they were strongly influenced by Brian Eno and early Roxy Music (and the Velvet Underground). Makes perfect sense in retrospect because those were, and are, my most profound influences. But I’d never made the connection. (I’ve just started reading a book about Wire and the making of Pink Flag and gleaned this information.)
Call me crazy, but I’m already at work on my next album (well, if you count Zru Vogue and Savage Roger, my band projects, I’m at work on 4 next albums). Not saying this to boast. It’s just what I do, and I can’t stop myself.
Yesterday I wrapped up song 2 of my as-of-yet-untitled next solo album—the song “Return to Love”—and also wrote the words to song 3, which I’m calling “The Definition of Insanity”. So named because I keep writing, recording, and producing songs knowing full well that they will be universally ignored. I did the only natural thing under the circumstances and wrote a song about it.
On the train this morning I started composing the TDOI rhythm tracks on my MacBook Pro. At 160 BPM, this one will be much more upbeeat than “Return To Love”, which clocked in at 90 BPM, 5:45 RT.
